Solar Turbines continues with its webinar series. Presented on January 31, 2023, Dr. Rainer Kurz hosted a special live webinar providing an introduction to Centrifugal Compressors. During this 90-minute event, he discussed general principles of gas compression, working principles of centrifugal compressors, configurations and applications in the Oil and Gas Industry. Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage, Exhaust Gas Recirculation

CCUS / Exhaust Gas Recirculation

Solar Turbines recognize the environmental and economic impact associated with the CO2 emissions when burning fossil fuels in our gas turbines.  Solar Turbines is actively reviewing potential technology in the areas of carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration (CCUS) to reduce and capture CO2 emissions.  Relevant CCUS technologies for use with gas turbines are discussed and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) in particular is featured.  EGR is a method to adapt current Solar Turbines engines into semi closed systems that enable a more cost-effective way to capture CO2 emissions.

Reducing Methane Emissions

Solar Turbines methane emission reduction solutions allow for the use of natural gas which would normally be released to atmosphere.  Solar provides solutions to reinject the methane  normally vented to atmosphere through a compressor’s primary dry seal vent line, as well as the gas normally vented during a compressor decompression event.  In addition, Solar Turbines a SMT 60 turbomachinery package, allowing for the creation of local power grids using natural gas formally vented or flared in fracking applications.
